FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
1. How do I know if I am part of the Class?
You are a member of the Class if you fall within the definition of the Class stated
in the Stipulation of Settlement (the "Stipulation"):
All persons who, between February 17, 1999 and December 31, 2005, purchased within
the United States an AT&T Prepaid Phone Card that had an international conversion
chart and no arbitration clause, and who thereafter made at least one completed
call to one of the 10 countries listed on the international conversion chart.
Click here for a complete list of AT&T PrePaid Phone Cards that are
affected by the settlement.
2. What is an arbitration clause?
An arbitration clause is a clause that requires parties to resolve disputes through
arbitration rather than through the court.
3. What are the Conversion Chart Countries?
The ten Conversion Chart Countries are the United Kingdom, Canada, Bahamas, Germany,
Mexico, Japan, France, Italy, Ireland and Israel.
4. Why is this Action a class action?
In a class action, one or more plaintiffs sue on behalf of people who have similar
claims. All of these people who have similar claims collectively make up the "class"
and are referred to individually as "class members." One case resolves
the issues for all class members together.
5. What does the Settlement provide for me and other Class members?
Valid Tier I claimants will receive a new PrePaid Phone Card with 100 minutes of
domestic call time. Limit one settlement payment per household for Tier I claimants.
Valid Tier I claimants are those who have signed a certification stating the Relevant
AT&T PrePaid Phone Card(s) purchased, the approximate date that the Card(s) were
purchased (the date must be before January 1, 2006), the place where the Card(s)
were purchased, and the international country called using the Card(s).
Valid Tier II claimants will receive two PrePaid Phone Cards each with 100 minutes
of domestic call time. Tier II claimants will have the option to have their existing
PrePaid Phone Cards recharged with 200 minutes of domestic call time instead of
receiving the two PrePaid Phone Cards. Limit one settlement payment per household,
except if Claimant purchased multiple Relevant PrePaid Phone Cards on the same day
and those purchases are not disputed by AT&T’s historic records, each card purchased
on that single day shall entitle the household to a separate settlement payment.
For other limitations, please see the Stipulation Valid
Tier II claimants are those who have provided the Tier I information, but who have
also provided the PIN number on the back of the qualifying AT&T PrePaid Phone Card(s).
PrePaid Phone Cards distributed pursuant to this settlement will be tied to the
terms and conditions, including the rate plan for the 100 minute state-to-state
calling PrePaid Phone Cards that are sold by AT&T on its website http://www.consumer.att.com/prepaidcard/fy/pr.html. For
rates, terms and conditions associated with the PrePaid Phone Cards, please visit
